Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI) and Friendship Wednesday published a research findings in a book on “Standard Guideline for Rural Housing in Disaster Prone Areas of Bangladesh”.
Housing and Public Works minister Eng. Mosharraf Hossain, MP was the chief guest to launch the book.
Mohammad Abu Sadeque PEng, Director, Housing and Building Research Institute, Md. Khalid Mahmood, Director, Department of Disaster Management and Kazi Amdadul Hoque, Director of Strategic Planning, Friendship who also worked as the technical coordinator of this initiative were also present on this occasion.
Eng. Mosharraf Hossain (MP) emphasized to prevent use of cultivable land for housing and clay burnt bricks. He urges to follow this guideline and disseminate it up to grassroot level.
Kazi Amdadul Hoque said this guideline will act as a great way forward for NGOs in particular to maintain integrity and disaster appropriateness housing construction in rural community.
Abu Sadeq said HBRI will continue research and offer support to NGOs for better housing solution using this guideline. He said it is a living document and improvement will take place time to time. The Shelter Cluster, HBRI and Friendship will conduct series of training on this guideline.
The guideline has defined the core and technical standards with the sample designs required for rural housing in disaster prone areas of Bangladesh.
