Govt’s relief programmes to cover all across country: Razzaque

Awami League Presidium Member Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque has said no one will remain out of the purview of humanitarian assistances and relief programmes as the government is trying hard to reach the relief goods to all across the country amid the COVID-19 situation.

”There is a sufficient supply of relief goods. All (people of the country) will get the assistance in phases,” the agriculture minister said while distributing relief goods among 300 destitute families maintaining social distancing properly at Paiska High School playground in Dhanbari of Tangail on Wednesday, reports BSS.

Urging the people to cooperate the government with patience, Razzaque said, “This government is people-friendly and public oriented. The government is always bedside you”.

He asked the people to follow the health rules and government guidelines to keep them safe from being infected with coronavirus.

The agriculture minister distributed relief goods among more than 300 destitute families at the college playground under the auspices of Dhanbari Paurasabha Mayor Khandoker Manjurul Islam Tapan.

Later, he exchanged views with the local administration, public representatives and law enforcement agencies on combating COVID-19, relief distribution and harvesting paddy at Dhanbari upazila auditorium.

Referring to the local public representatives, Razzaque said, “The government has taken ‘zero tolerance’ policy against relief misappropriation. No incident of irregularities will be spared”.

Upazila Chairman Harunur Rashid Hira, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arifa Siddiqa and Circle ASP Kamran Hossain joined the view exchange meeting, among others.

Speaking about paddy harvesting, the agriculture minister said a target has been set up to produce over 204,000 metric tonnes of Boro rice this year.

Noting that about 55 per cent of the total rice production comes from the Boro crop, he said different agricultural equipments, including about 800 combine harvesters and 400 reapers, at cost of Taka 1.00 billion, have already been reached to the farmers while the process is underway to reach same amount of agricultural equipments to the farmers soon at cost of more Taka 1.00 billion.

Later, Razzaque distributed relief items among 2,500 destitute families as humanitarian assistance at Madhupur upazila in the district this afternoon.
