Govt to procure Boro paddy through ‘Krishoker App’

After procurement of Aman paddy through digital application, the government will now procure food grains from the farmers directly using mobile application – billed as ‘Krishoker App’- from 22 upazilas in the Boro season.

During the Aman season, the government  procured food grains through the app on experimental basis from 16 upazilas of 16 districts and now food grains will be procured from 22 upazilas of 22 districts, said a handout of  the Food Ministry on Monday.

Earlier, the government took a decision to procure food grains using digital application from one upazila of 64 districts each and 16 upazilas but later the decision was changed due to outbreak of coronavirus.

The 22 upazilas include Savar, sadar upazila of Gazipur, Narsingdi , Manikganj, Kishoreganj, Rajbari, Tangail, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Bhola, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangpur , Dinajpur, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Brahmanbaria and Barishal districts and Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin Upazila.

The farmers will have to complete their registration first and once their registration is approved they could apply for selling, reports UNB.

The UNO concerned will select the applicants through lottery and they will be informed through SMS.

On April 7, the government has taken decision to procure 1.15 million metric tonnes of rice (boiled and non-boiled) and 600,000 metric tonnes of paddy during the current Boro season.

Besides, some 1.0 million metric tonnes of boiled rice will be procured at Tk 36 per kg, 150,000 metric tonnes of non-boiled (atap) rice at Tk 35 per kg and 600,000 metric tonnes of paddy at Tk 26 per kg from millers.
