Govt to procure 1.15m tonnes of rice, 0.8m tonnes of paddy

The government will procure some 1.15 million metric tonnes of rice (boiled and non-boiled) and 8,000 metric tonnes of paddy during the current Boro season.

Besides, some 75,000 metric tonnes of wheat will be procured from local markets in the season, reports UNB citing a handout of the Food Ministry on Thursday.

The government has set the target at a meeting of Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at the conference room of the ministry.

Some 1.0 million metric tonnes of boiled rice will be procured at Tk 36 per kg, 150,000 metric tonnes of non-boiled (atap) rice at Tk 35 per kg and 6,000 metric tonnes of paddy at Tk 26 per kg.

Besides, wheat will be collected at Tk 28 per kg.

Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Health Minister Zahid Maleque, LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam, among others, attended the meeting through a videoconference.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumder presided over the meeting.
