The government is working to address the climate change effect, including arranging rehabilitation for the climate change affected people in the country, said Environment Minister Md. Shahab Uddin.
So far, 800 projects have been undertaken at a cost of Tk 38 billion with the funding of the Climate Change Trust Fund.
About 30 million people in the coastal areas alone have been benefited from these projects.
The minister said the government would take steps to build more houses in future for those who have been left homeless due to climate change, he mentioned.
The environment minister said these while speaking as the Chief Guest at a view exchange meeting with officials of the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust at the Old Forest Building in Mohakhali on Tuesday.
Mr Shahab said all necessary steps would be taken to amend the law, set up field offices and recruit adequate manpower so that the Climate Change Trust could function independently.
The minister directed the authorities concerned to construct the Cyclone Shelter Cum Primary School on a four-storey foundation and to set up a lightning forecast system across the country.
The meeting was chaired by Masud Ahmed, Managing Director of the Climate Change Trust while Nasir-ud-Daulah, Secretary of the Trust; Md. Khairuzzaman, Director, S. M. Munirul Islam, Conservator of the Forest Department and Shakila Yasmin, Assistant Director of the Trust spoke on the occasion.
Prior to the meeting, the minister visited a photo exhibition of various activities implemented with the funding of the Climate Change Trust Fund and gave instructions to the concerned on various issues.
