Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Sunday informed that the government would arrange a single temporary accommodation for all the migrated Rohingyas at Thengar Char in Hatiya of Noakhali.
“We will arrange a single temporary accommodation for all Rohingyas who remain scattered in Cox’s Bazar. We’ve assigned a place close to Swandip and it is Thengar Char, which was renamed Bhasan Char by the Prime Minister. There are 10,000 acres of land there, where we will keep Rohingyas there temporarily,” he said, reports UNB.
The Disaster Management and Relief Minister came up with the revelation in the parliament replying to a supplementary question from treasury bench member Kamal Ahmed Majumder.
Maya said the government will set up a temporary shelter at Thengar Char for the Rohingya who entered Bangladesh fleeing violence in Myanmar.
He said that the government would provide temporary assistance, including shelter, food and treatment to the ill-fated Rohingyas until they return to their country.
The minister said he recently visited the areas in Cox’s Bazar and witnessed the untold sufferings of Rohingyas who migrated from Myanmar.
He, however, said that the Rohingya refugees definitely have to return back to their country. “The government together with the world community will send Rohingyas back to their country through enhanced diplomatic efforts.”
Without mentioning name of any quarter, he said certain quarters were trying “to fish in troubled waters” over the issue.
He asked them all to refrain from such activities but to stand beside the government to deal with the crisis.
