Govt sets four goals to implement ‘Digital Bangladesh’

Bangladesh is moving forward with four main objectives to implement ‘Digital Bangladesh’.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak came up with the comment on Wednesday.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the ‘Vision 2021’ in 2008 to establish Bangladesh as a middle-income country at the 50 years of independence. In order to implement the vision, four main goals have been set,” he said.

The four key objectives of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ are human resources development, connecting the internet, e-governance and building IT industry, he said.

The state minister was speaking at a session on the ‘World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Action Line 2030’ at the WSIS Forum in Geneva of Switzerland, said a press release.

Palak said the government has launched the ‘Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI)’ project for ensuring the participation of 50 percent women in the information technology sector.

He said many villagers of Bangladesh are using smart phones and they are enjoying internet services. “A total of 2,600 unions across the country are being brought under fiber optic cable connection through Info Sarkar-3,” he added, reports BSS.
