Govt plans to introduce award for saving rivers

The government plans to introduce conferring of ‘Bangabandhu River Award’ to individuals or institutions for contribution in the field of conserving rivers.

The award will be given to encourage individuals and institutions for contributions to keep the river clean, prevent occupation of river banks and building illegal establishments through filling up river and prevent water pollution of rivers, said a press release in Dhaka on Tuesday, reports BSS.

The ministry has formulated a draft of “Bangabandhu River Award 2019”. There will be no bar for government employees or institutions to receive the award.

The award will be given to three individuals or institutions at national level and one will be given at district level.

At national level, 25-gram gold medals (18 karat), Taka 50,000 and certificates will be provided while a 15-gram (18-karat) gold medal and Taka 30,000 and certificate will be given at district level.

The award will be given on World Maritime Day or on convenient time of the Prime Minister.
