The government has nationalised 271 private colleges across the country, raising the number of public colleges and equivalent educational institutions to 598.
The Education Ministry issued an order in this regard on Sunday. The order came into effect from August 8, reports UNB.
According to bdnews24.com, the government had pledged to nationalise at least one college in each upazila. The government began making the new list of private colleges across the country as part of the commitment.
Among those enlisted colleges, the government nationalised 271 private colleges after scrutinising them. At least 10,000 teachers are working at those colleges.
On July 31, the education ministry issued regulations regarding the pay-scale of the teachers at those colleges.
