Govt launches e-chalan for smooth passport, NID processing

The government has introduced 'e-chalan' to facilitate people to pay fees for passport, police verification and national ID card online which is expected to ensure hassle-free services to the people.

State minister for finance and planning M A Mannan inaugurated the 'e-chalan' at a programme held at the finance ministry on Sunday.

"Though the e-chalan has been launched initially for three services, all government payments including fees of ministries and bodies can be made through it by April next year. This service will help cut both the waste of money and time," said Mannan.

Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister's Office Md. Abul Kalam Azad, finance secretary in charge Muslim Chowdhury, commissioner of NBR's Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) Md Matiur Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion.

E-chalan has been launched from the Prime Minister's Office under the guidance and supervision of the Finance Division. Anyone enjoying online banking services can make payments through this system by filling up the specific form.

Speaking on the occasion, Abul Kalam Azad said people will get rid of suffering by using e-chalan. It will cut influence of middlemen, he said and urged all concerned to make people aware about the benefits of the use of this system.

Finance secretary Muslim Chowdhury said if all payments of the government are made through electronic system, the money is deposited to the government exchequer timely and properly and people will also get rid of sufferings.

E-chalan will soon be introduced for collection of VAT and income tax, he added, reports BSS.
