Job seekers, under the banner of Sarbadaliya Chhatra Oikya Parishad, staged demonstrations in Nilkhet intersection in Dhaka on Sunday demanding extension of age limit to apply for the government jobs.
When they gathered there at 10.30 am to press home their various demands including the extension of the age limit, police asked them to leave the place.
As the job seekers did not move, police chased them and charged baton to disperse them, reports UNB.
Officer in- Charge (OC) of New Market Police Station (Acting) Sam Qayyum said, "The government has imposed restriction on any kind of gathering and rallies to contain the spread of Covid-19."
"However, we gave them 45 minutes to leave the road but they didn’t listen to us. So, we were forced to take action to reduce the sufferings of people" he added.
Being dispersed by police from Nilkhet intersection, they staged another rally at the foot of Raju sculpture at Dhaka University’s TSC area.
The protesters’ other demands are: stopping corruption in the government’s recruitment process, and making public the scores of both preliminary and written tests, reducing application fees for all jobs and stopping taking of more than one recruitment test in a day.
