The government has imposed a 22-day ban on catching, carrying, hoarding, trading and transportation of all kinds of fishes, with particular emphasis on Hilsha and Jatka (Hilshafry), in the sweet waters of Chandpur belt from October 7.

The ban which will continue till October 29 is a part of a long-term programme to boost the country’s fishery sector, as per UNB report.

"The restricted area will cover around 100 kilometres starting from Char Alexander of Lakshmipur district up to Shatnol under Matlab North Upazila of Chandpur district," said District Fisheries Officer H.M. Mohibullah on Saturday.

For violation of the imposed restriction, the offenders will be jailed for one or two years or fined, he added.
