BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was released from jail on bail on Tuesday, over three months after his arrest.
He walked out of the Keraniganj Central Jail around 7:00pm after the bail order in four cases reached the jail authorities, BNP central leader and Gayeshwar's daughter-in-law Nipun Roy said.
She said the BNP leader recently got bail from the High Court in four cases --two with Shahbagh, one each with Ramna and Chawkbazar Police Stations -- paving the way for his release.
Nipun said Gayeshwar will go to United Hospital in the capital to visit ailing BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Earlier on January 30, detectives arrested Gayeshwar near Police Plaza Concord Shopping Mall in the city's Gulshan area ahead of the lower court's verdict delivered on February 8 in a graft case of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He was later shown arrested in the four political violence cases, reports UNB.
