Gabtoli gunfight leaves ‘robber’ dead

A suspected robber was killed and another received bullet injuries in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gabtoli area of Dhaka on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Badsa, accused in several cases with different police stations, reports UNB.

Mahiuddin Faruk, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of RAB-10, said being tipped-off, a team of the elite force set up a check post in front of Madhumati hotel of the area around 12:30am.

Over suspicious movement, the RAB members signalled a truck to stop around 3:00am.

However, avoiding the signal, the robbers opened fire on the elite force, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gun battle.

The gunfight left Badsa dead on the spot and another robber Hanif injured with bullet, said the report.

The team also recovered a revolver, seven rounds of bullets, two machetes, three sharp weapons and seized their vehicle from the spot.
