Further rains are likely today in different parts of the country already reeling under a cold wave, said a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) this morning

The rains might stop after midnight, he said.

Meanwhile from yesterday evening to this morning, a moderate level of rains hit many districts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions, according to local media reports.

During that period, the Met office recorded 15mm rainfall in Jashore -- the highest in the country.

The lowest temperature it registered in the last 24 hours was 9.2 degrees Celsius in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh.

In a forecast valid for 24 hours from 9:00am on Friday, the Met office said that night and day temperature may fall by (1-2)° C over the country, thanks to the rain.

According to the forecast, light rains/drizzles are likely at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Khulna, Barisal, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions.

A mild cold wave is already sweeping over the regions of Panchagarh, Dinajpur and Nilphamari and it may continue and spread, it said.

Due to the cold wave, people from all strata of life, especially those who live from hand to mouth, in the northern part of the country, have been suffering immensely for the last several days.
