Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain said the government has finalised an interim water sharing agreement framework of the River Teesta.
While replying to a question from treasury bench member Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan, he said, "A framework of the interim Teesta Water Sharing Agreement has been finalised following the directives of the two premiers."
The minister, however, hoped that the government would be able to sign the Teesta River water sharing agreement based on equality, justice and a policy on not harming each other.
He said, "The efforts for signing the deal with India through discussion are ongoing."
BSS quoted the minister as saying that after coming to power in 2009, the present government gave highest importance to signing the Teesta River water sharing agreement and started discussion in different spheres with the Indian government.
The minister also said the government has finalised an interim water sharing agreement framework of the Feni River.
The discussion on the water sharing of Monu, Muhuri, Khowai, Gumti, Dharala and Dudhkumar rivers is also underway, he said.
