The government will resume its food friendly programme -- open market sale -- for the poor across the country in March, less than a week away, Food Minister Quamrul Islam has said.
Five million families altogether will benefit from this, he said at a press conference in Dhaka city on Thursday, adding that every family will get 30 kgs of rice per month— Tk 10/kg.
Floods in haor areas triggered short supply of rice, resulting in the suspension of the second slot of the food friendly programme last year.
The programme is operated in two slots— one from March to April and another from September to November.
