The flood situation may worsen in the next 24-hour period as water levels of most of the major rivers are rising, according to a bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
The 24-hour bulletin also said the Brahmaputra river is showing an upward trend, while the Jamuna river is in a steady state which may continue in the next 24 hours.
The water levels of Ganges-Padma rivers are rising, which may continue in the next 24 hours, as per the bulletin.
It also predicted that the water levels of all major rivers in the north-eastern region of the country are rising and this trend may continue in the next 24 hours.
Citing information from different meteorological agencies, the bulletin said that there is a chance of medium to heavy rainfall at some places in the north-eastern part of the country and adjoining the upstream part of India in the next 24 hours.
As a result, the major rivers of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts in the north-eastern region may rise rapidly during this period.
However, no rivers are flowing above the danger level in the country currently, as per the bulletin.
