Six people, including five members of a family, were killed in a road accident in Ferighat area on Sylhet-Tamabil road under Jointapur upazila of the district this morning.
The deceased were identified as Husain Ahmed, 28, driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, son of Arab Ali of Pakhibil village, Sadia Begum, 30, wife of Jamal Ahmed of Rupcheng village, her seven-year-old daughter Fabia and four-month son Shahadat, relatives Hasina Begum, 53 and Hasibun Nessa, 55.
Police said the accident occurred when a Jaflong-bound truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area around 6.40am, leaving three dead on the spot and injuring others, reports BSS.
The wounded were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Hasina, Hasiba and Hussain dead, said Gulam Dostogir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jointapur Police Station.
The bodies will be handed over to their family members after post-mortem, the OC added.
A case was filed with the police station in this connection.
