Five more die of COVID-19 in BD, 688 more test positive

Five more people died from coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Monday, Dr. Nasima Sultana, ADG (Admin), DGHS, said.

On the 58th day after Bangladesh registered the first case of such infection on March 08, the death toll due to the COVID-19 reached at 182.

Besides, 688 more people tested positive for the virus during the period, the highest single-day surge in the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases, raising the number of such cases in the country to 10,143.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Nasima Sultana made the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin on Monday.

During the same period, 147 more people have recovered. With this, a total of 1210 people have so far made recovery from the highly infectious disease.

A total of 6,315 samples were collected and 6,260 samples tested across the country during the period.

Earlier on Sunday, two people died and 665 people tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Worldometer, a website that provides real-time updates, information until 3:10 pm on Monday, 3,581,870 people were infected with COVID-19 virus. Of them, 248,555 died of the viral attack.

United States of America (USA) was the worst victim of new coronavirus pandemic, reporting the highest infection (1,188,421) and death cases (68,602), the data showed.

In terms of death, other worst affecting countries were Italy (28,884), followed by United Kingdom (28,446), Spain (25,264), and France (24,895).

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
