At least five students have been injured as activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) clashed over taking drugs in Dhaka city on Friday.
Witnesses said the clashing groups – one from Zahurul Haque Hall of Dhaka University and another from Bangladesh University of Science and Technology— were locked into an altercation on Thursday.
Afterwards, some activists of BCL BUET chapter confined one Dhaka University BCL activist named Imran to a room on their campus, they said.
They added, hearing of this, activists of Zahurul Haque Hall released him and attacked BUET students, leaving some of them injured.
Buet BCL President Shubhra Joti said, “Leaders and activists of Zahurul Haque Hall BCL attacked our leaders and activists, leaving five of our activists injured, while we resisted it only.”
All five injured--Sourav, Debba, Anik, Mahuri and Sadman- were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Of them, Sadman is in critical state.
“As we went to release our confined activist, they attacked us,” said Zahurul Haque hall BCL general Secretary Asif Talukder.
DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani said the situation is now under control. Necessary measures would be taken after investigation.
