Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence has launched a new hotline number to provide all kinds of fire-related information, including emergency services.
The new number 16163 for its central control room in Dhaka has already come into effect, said the officials.
It is to be noted that the current 11-digit phone number would also remain active.
The fire department provides services on the basis of information it generally receives. Telephone is one of the means of providing information to the service recipients.
This 5-digit hotline has been launched as it is difficult to remember the existing 11- digit telephone in case of emergency.
People can now ask for services from the fire service easily.
All media outlets, including television scrolls, were requested to promote the new hotline number to facilitate quick response of people in danger in case of emergency, according to a statement.
Emergency services of the fire service can be obtained directly from any phone on the hotline number 16163, it added.
