Mr Shamsul Huq Zahid has been appointed editor of The Financial Express (FE) with effect from today (Thursday).
The board of directors of the International Publications Limited (IPL), the owning company of the FE, at a recent meeting approved his appointment.
He joined the FE as a special correspondent in 2001 and has served the newspaper as deputy editor, joint editor and executive editor.
Mr Zahid, a career journalist, has been in the profession for about 50 years. He first joined the now-defunct English daily The Morning News in 1973 as a staff reporter. He then worked in another English daily, The Bangladesh Times, where he held different positions, including chief reporter and city editor during the period from 1975 to 1997. Mr Zahid was also executive editor at the weekly Dhaka Courier for nearly three years.
Mr Zahid succeeds Shah Husain Imam. Late A H M Moazzem Hossain was the founder editor of FE.
Mr Zahid is a former president of the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF), a platform for financial journalists of the country.
He co-authored a book titled 'Rivers of Life', published by Panos London.
