Bangladesh received an Indian assistance in the form of 30,000 surgical masks and 15,000 head-covers on Wednesday, while fighting the Covid-19 outbreak.

The assistance is intended to support the efforts of the government of Bangladesh in tackling the spread of Covid-19 cases, said a spokesperson for the High Commission of India in Dhaka.

As part of India’s Neighborhood First policy and with a view to taking a collaborative regional approach to contain the spread of Covid19, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, along with leaders of other Saarc Countries, held a video conference on 15 March this year.

In pursuance of the announcement made by Modi during the conference about establishing a Covid-19 emergency fund, India launched the fund with an initial contribution of US$10 million.

Subsequently, various Saarc nations, including Bangladesh, have contributed to the Covid-19 emergency fund.

Officials said preparations are also underway about conducting video conferences between medical professionals and other stakeholders in India and Bangladesh for considering specific measures and exchanging best practices.

As a friend and neighbor, India is ready to stand by Bangladesh in times of challenges, the High Commission said adding that together India and Bangladesh would succeed in fighting the spread of corona in their countries.
