Ferry service on Paturia-Daulatdia route resumes after 4 hours

The ferry service between Paturia-Daulatdia route in Padma river in Manikganj district has resumed after about 4 hours suspension for dense fog, an official said on Saturday morning.

The ferry movement was suspended from 4:00am to 7.50am due to poor visibility as dense fog blanked the region while 6 ferries waiting to be loaded and unloaded at Paturia ghat and 6 at Daulatdia ghat were stuck, said Zillur Rahman, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia ghat.

The suspension caused hundreds of vehicles including passenger buses, private cars and goods loaded trucks stranded on both the bank of the river Padma, bringing immense sufferings to the travelers.

Dense fog also triggered banning movements of all kinds of engine driven boats and launches, increasing the ordeal of home goers, holidaymakers and other travelers with women and children.

The ferry service, however, resumed at 7.50am after disappearing the fog, bringing normalcy gradually in both the harbor areas, resulting in decreasing pressure of stranded vehicle, the official said.
