A female restaurant worker was killed after a gas cylinder explosion at Ashulia area of Savar in Dhaka.
The incident was reported from Ashulia early on Sunday at the 'Ma Hotel and Restaurant – 2', said DEPZ Fire Service Senior Station Officer Abdul Hamid Miah, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Maleka Begum, reports UNB.
Maleka was hired as a cook on Saturday, said restaurant owner Zahedul Islam. She was working at the stove, when cooking gas cylinder exploded, he said.
“A fire soon spread throughout the kitchen. Maleka died on the spot.”
Two male workers fled with burns, said Islam.
A fire service unit was dispatched to the scene and put out the fire, said fire service official Miag. The woman’s body was recovered afterwards.
News of her death has been sent to the person, who recommended her for the position, said Ashulia Police Station OC Abdul Awal.
