FE to hold dialogue on overall preparedness for the supposed new wave

The Financial Express will hold the seventh episode of its webinar series tomorrow (Thursday).

This episode will focus on the overall impact of the new Omicron variant, the recent spike in infection rate, and our preparedness to tackle this.

The virtual discussion titled "Anticipated New Wave of Coronavirus: Is Bangladesh Prepared Enough?" will start at 7:00 pm (Bangladesh Time), where experts from various relevant sectors are expected to be present and discuss the timely issue.

The discussants will focus on the overall preparedness of Bangladesh for the next waves of coronavirus with Omicron already affecting public health and the economy.

The dialogue session will also discuss the immediate actions and steps by the government to handle the situation and the readiness of the public health sector with the caseload gradually swelling.

The potential impacts of the supposed new wave on other areas of the economy and trade will be explored as well. The discussion will also address the most stagnated sector of the previous wave - the education sector.

Dr Rumana Huque, professor, Department of Economics, will chair and moderate the session.

Professor Dr Md Sazzad Hossain, member, University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor Dr Shah Monir Hossain, former director general, Directorate General of Health Services, Dr Fahmida Khatun, executive director, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and Asif Ibrahim, chairman, Chittagong Stock Exchange and former president (2011-2012) of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will be present as the distinguished panellists at the session.

Shamsul Huq Zahid, executive editor of The Financial Express, will make introductory remarks at the dialogue. The session will be broadcasted live on The Financial Express’s website and Facebook page.
