FE journalist Raihan M Chowdhury laid to eternal rest

Raihan M Chowdhury, senior news consultant at The Financial Express (FE), was laid to eternal rest at Shahjahanpur Graveyard in the city on Saturday night.

He breathed his last at the city’s Islami Bank Central Hospital around 2:00 pm on Saturday. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis.

The first namaz-e-janaza of the journalist was held on the premises of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity at 4:00 pm and the second on the premises of the Jatiya Press Club at 5:00 pm. The third janaza was held at Sheltech Rahman Vila in the Shanti Nagar area of Dhaka before the funeral on Saturday night.

Raihan M Chowdhury had been in journalism for more than three decades. He had been working for The FE since 1996. He also worked as the FE's senior business editor.

Mr Chowdhury was a permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC). He was also a member of the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) and the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU). He was also a former advisor to Capital Market Journalists' Forum.

Jatiya Press Club (JPC) President Farida Yasmin and JPC General Secretary Ilyas Khan expressed deep shock and sorrow at Raihan M Chowdhury’s death.

In a condolence message, the JPC president and secretary prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family members.

In a separate condolence message, Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) President Sharmeen Rinvy and General Secretary SM Rashidul Islam expressed profound shock at the death of Raihan Chowdhury.

President of Capital Market Journalists' Forum Ziaur Rahman and General Secretary Abu Ali have expressed deep shock at Mr Chowdhury’s death.

During his long career, Mr Chowdhury visited many countries, including the USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Spain, and Japan.

Before joining The FE, he worked for The Morning Sun and The New Nation as a sub-editor as well as a reporter.

In 1990, he graduated with honours and a master's degree in public administration from Dhaka University.

Mr Chowdhury was born on January 1, 1966, and was around 57 years old when he died. He left behind his wife and two sons and a lot of admirers to mourn his death.
