The family of imprisoned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will decide about seeking her release on parole, the party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
"It is entirely up to her family; they will decide about this," he told reporters after paying floral tributes at the mausoleum of the party's founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka city on Tuesday morning to mark the 40th founding anniversary of Tanti Dal, an associate body of the party, according to media reports.
The remark followed a reporters' query on whether the party will seek Khaleda's release on parole in case she fails to get bail.
Asked again whether he talked with Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on the parole issue, he said the party has said nothing like this.
According to the constitution, the case is bailable and so she can get bail, providing that the government does not keep her detained out of sheer political vengeance, the BNP leader added.
BNP joint-secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Tanti Dal convener Abul Kalam Azad and Sramik Dal president, among others, were present.
