Some 121 people were killed and 103 others injured in 88 factory accidents across the country in the financial year of (FY) 2018 - 2019, according to an official data.
The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) also revealed the data, mentioning that it gave Tk 7.106 million to those victims’ families in the accidents as compensation which was released from the concerned factory owners.
The DIFE is working relentlessly to ensure a safe working environment in factories, shops and establishments as per Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 and Bangladesh Labour Rules, 2015.
To enforce the law, the DIFE regularly inspects the factories or establishments on the spot and identifies the violations of labour laws and regulations. It also issues notices to factory and establishment authorities stating the time for their rectification.
The DIFE also gave the advice to the factory owners or management or concerned authorities from time to time to make them aware of safety and other issues.
