EVM voting in all centres of six constituencies

The election commission has decided to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all polling centres of six constituencies during the forthcoming parliamentary elections, slated for December 30.

EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed informed the decision that was taken at a meeting of the commission on Saturday.

The meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda with other commissioners in presence.

The meeting was started at 3.30pm and ended around 5.45pm at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.

The EC is yet to confirm which six of the 300 seats will use the EVMs. The announcement over the six constituencies will be made on November 28, the EC secretary said.

The secretary said the commission will select six constituencies randomly for using EVMs.

"The constituencies will be finalised through a lottery on November 28 in front of you (journalists)," he said, reports UNB.

He said these constituencies will be chosen from city corporation areas.

Replying to a query on a BNP's claim that the EC secretary attended a secret meeting, he said, "It's totally a false propaganda. I strongly condemn it."

In reply to another question whether the Commission will take actions against this propaganda, he said, "I'll placed it in tomorrow's (Sunday's) Election Commission meeting, and the commission will take decision."
