Ershad declares 18-point manifesto as election nears

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has declared an 18-point manifesto on ‘good governance and development of the nation’ from a rally of the Sammilito Jatiya Jote at Suhrawardy Udyan.

His manifesto promises administrative decentralisation, reforms to the election process and the Election Commission and stringent measures to curb violence.

The Sammilito Jatiya Jote or United National Alliance led by Ershad organised the rally to demonstrate its political prowess ahead of the eleventh national election.

Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairman Rowshan Ershad and Co-Chairman GM Quader accompanied Ershad on the stage during the rally, which started at 10:30 am on Saturday.

Jatiya Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, presidium members and leaders from allies such as Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Islami Front, Jatiya Islami Mahajote were present at the rally.

The rally has been designed to boost the spirits of their leaders and activists to prepare them for elections in 300 constituencies, said Jatiya Party leaders.

The Jatiya Party had hoisted posters and banners along the streets of Dhaka over the last few days with photographs of their leaders and slogans, such as ‘Let’s Go to Dhaka’, to promote the rally.

The rally was rescheduled from October 6 to October 20 due to Ershad’s visit to Singapore and other conferences in different districts, bdnews24 reported.

Leaders of the Jatiya Party and Sammilito Jatiya Jote travelled to different districts prior to the rally. Meetings were held in Patuakhali, Barishal, Noakhali, Chattogram, Rangpur, Khulna and Sylhet with party activists. The top leaders of the alliance also met in the Jatiya Party chairman’s office in Banani to prepare for the rally.

“The Jatiya Party is stronger now than in the past. It wants to create a modern and safe Bangladesh securing the people’s mandate. This rally will provide a positive political message to the country. We want to show that we can play a big role in the upcoming election,” said Jatiya Party leader Ruhul Amin Howlader.
