A young man who sustained bullet injury in firing on the eve of the voting in the national election in Barura upazila of Cumilla on Sunday died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on Monday.
The victim was identified as Sakhawat Hossain, 21, of the upazila.
With this, the death toll from the election violence has reached 18.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia said three people who received bullet injuries in the incident during the early hours of Sunday were admitted to the hospital.
Of them, Sakhawat succumbed to his injuries in the morning, said the officer.
According to victim's brother Iman Hossain, their house is situated near the Adda Degree College polling station in Cumilla. At one point, gunshots were heard.
Iman along with locals rushed to the spot only to find three bullet-riddled bodies including his brother’s, UNB reports.
His brother alleged notorious miscreants for the death.
