Eid-ul Fitr tomorrow, if moon sighted today

The holy Eid-ul Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, will be observed across the country tomorrow, if the Shawal moon is sighted today.

A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held today in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque complex of the city.

All preparations for holding the Eid congregations have already been completed across the country.

The three-day public holiday has begun from today, marking the Eid-ul-Fitr that comes after a month of fasting.

The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy occasion with due religious fervour.

National flags will be hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments.

Miniature national flags and flags inscribed with "Eid Mubarak' will be displayed at important traffic islands and light-posts in the city.

Besides, designated government offices and other establishments will be illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul Fitr.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes.

Newspapers have already published supplements on the occasion, taking it into account that Eid will be held tomorrow.

Improved diets will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages for Eid.

City corporations will keep open the children parks, allowing free entry of all visitors on the occasion.

The day will be observed at Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.

The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8:30am.

Five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am and 10:45 am.

The country's biggest Eid congregation will be held at the Sholakia Eidgha Maidan in Kishoreganj, BSS reported.

Bangladesh Railway will operate two pairs of special trains on the Bhairab-Kishoreganj-Bhairab and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes on the Eid day for carrying passengers to and from Sholakia.
