Each division to get medical university: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pledged to set up a medical university in each division if she can get mandate to form government for another term.

Sheikh Hasina came up with the statement while addressing the Doctors Conference-2018 at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

The Prime Minister informed the doctors that the government has taken a plan to construct multi-storeyed buildings in upazila headquarters to ensure residential facilities for the doctors.

She said construction of modern buildings for Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is going on to replace the dilapidated ones.

Sheikh Hasina said the government has made best efforts to take the healthcare services to the doorstep of the people.

Urging the doctors to be more caring to the patients, the Prime Minister said, “You are engaged in a noble profession as nothing can be more gracious than providing treatment for a patient.”

Sheikh Hasina laid importance on modernisation of the curriculum of the private medical colleges to get efficient doctors.

Health Minister Muhammad Nasim and State Minister for Health Zahid Maleque attended the function as special guests.

President of the Confederation of Medical Associations of Asia and Oceania Dr Ravindran R Naidu was present as the guest of honour.

Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) President Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin was in the chair while Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dr. Kanak Barua and secretary general of BMA Dr. Ehtashamul Haq spoke, among others, on the occasion.
