The 53rd convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the university's central playground of the campus with more than 30,348 graduates and postgraduates getting their degrees.
At the convocation, the President and also Chancellor of the university Mohammad Abdul Hamid will preside over the programme while Nobel laureate French economist Professor Dr Jean Tirole will be present as the convocation speaker. He (Dr. Jean Tirole) was also honoured by the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) degree there.
The DU authorities have already completed all preparations and also distributed the convocation cap, costumes, tie. Graduates claimed that the convocation cap, costume and tie were distributed using polythene bags.
The tie has been marked 53th convocation instead of 53rd convocation.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman expressed sorrow and said that it was unacceptable to distribute costumes in polythene bags.
"We came to know that two booths distributed costumes in polythene bags but other booths used tissue bags. We are looking into the matter", the VC said.
