Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Wednesday conducted a special cleanliness campaign at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city to ensure a clean and comfortable environment for the devotees in the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon inaugurated the campaign, launched by DSCC in association with Islamic Foundation (IF), according to a statement.
Addressing the inaugural function, the mayor said, "The capital is our beloved city. It is our responsibility to keep the city clean".
Every city dweller should take part in the cleanliness campaign, Khokon said, adding, "We have to establish ourselves in the world as the residents of a clean city".
Officials of IF and devotees were present in the inaugural function.
Later, the mayor went round different sections of the mosque and offered prayers.
Another press release of IF said that United Nation (UN) Secretary General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten today paid a courtesy call on IF Director General Shamim Mohammad Afjal at his office at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque here.
During the meeting, they laid emphasised on creating social awareness against sexual violence on Rohingya women, the release added.
Patten sought cooperation of the IF director general to prevent the sexual violence on women and children, reports BSS.
