A drug crime suspect has been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
The gunfight occurred in the Beribadh area early on Monday morning, said RAB-2 In-Charge Assistant Superintendent of Police Saiful Malik.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Asadul, a resident of the BNP Bazar area. RAB says he has been accused in several cases of drug-related crimes and other criminal activity.
A RAB patrol team went to the Beribadh area after receiving news that a group of drug dealers were in the area, bdnews24 reported.
“The drug dealers opened fire when they noticed the patrol team’s presence. RAB returned fire and injured one. The rest fled.”
The wounded man was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, RAB official Saiful Malik said.
“A moneybag was found on the deceased. We used it to ascertain his identity.”
Two pistols and over 1,000 yaba tablets were recovered from the scene, Malik added.
