A court in Dhaka on Sunday sent Drik Gallery Managing Director and Chairman of media institute Pathshala Shahidul Alam to jail before completion of his 7-day remand, in a case filed under the ICT Act.
Investigation officer Arman Ali, also an inspector of Detective Branch (DB), produced Shahidul before the court and asked to keep him in jail until the investigation of the case ends.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Fahad Bin Amin passed the order.
Earlier on August 6, Shahidul was placed on a seven-day remand for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the High Court on August 7, asked the authorities concerned to send Shahidul to BSMMU for his treatment and also asked the relevant authorities to form a medical board to examine his health and submit a report on his health condition on August 9 (Thursday).
In compliance with the order, the BSMMU authorities placed a report before it on August 9 (Thursday), UNB reported.
Later on August 9, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to examine as per section 2 (6) of the Torture and Custodial Death Prevention Act, 2013 whether Shahidul was tortured physically and mentally.
Detectives detained Shahidul from his Dhanmondi residence on the night of August 5 for interrogation over his Facebook posts on the student protests demanding road safety.
Later, police filed a case against him with Ramna Police Station.
