Awami League mayoral candidate in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) M Atiqul Islam unveiled a 38-point election manifesto at a city hotel on Sunday, with the vow to build a healthy, vibrant and modern Dhaka.
Setting his priorities if elected in the February 01 elections, the incumbent DNCC mayor divided them into three segments -- healthy Dhaka, Vibrant Dhaka and Modern Dhaka.
Under healthy Dhaka where 13 promises were made, Mr Atiqul gave highest priority on conducting year-long anti-mosquito drive in the DNCC area through Integrated Vector Management (IVM) method like developed cities, with the help of other concerned state entities.
Alongside recovering water bodies from illegal occupation, he highlighted the importance of introducing resource recovery facilities (RRF) to convert waste into energy for sustainable waste management.
As part of 13-point pledges under vibrant Dhaka, he laid emphasis on freeing footpath from illegal occupants and creating a pedestrian friendly footpath network in the DNCC.
To lessen traffic jam, Mr Atiqul promised to implement a coordinated action plan along with other bodies in the area.
For safe road crossing, he vowed for the introduction of digital push button signal at each zebra crossing in the DNCC.
He also stressed the importance of rehabilitation and alternative employment for hawkers.
In terms of 12-point modern Dhaka, the AL mayoral candidate said he will work for launching Sobar Dhaka App through which the citizens can lodge their complaints and maintain regular communication directly with the mayor.
