The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday collected over Tk 2.879 million in fines from traffic offenders.
In a simultaneous drive on the city streets conducted on the day, the DMP filed a total of 4,839 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violations, according to DMP data.
Of the cases, 821 were lodged for driving on the wrong sides, 76 for using hydraulic horn, seven for using hooter and beacon light, and 21 others for using tinted glass.
Police also filed 1,652 cases against motorcycle riders and seized 116 bikes over traffic offences.
Apart from this, the DMP dumped 60 vehicles and wrecked 828 others during the drive.
