The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on flying paper lanterns, popularly known as fanush, in the capital area to avoid any risk of accident.
DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah said kerosene is used to illuminate for flying paper lanterns, said a press release.
According to the police official, sometimes these lanterns fall down in burning condition, causing risk of fire and other security threats.
"This can cause big disaster anytime," he said.
Md Asaduzzaman Miah requested all not to fly lanterns in Dhaka metropolitan area.
"Otherwise necessary legal actions will be taken as per Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to ensure the security of the city dwellers," he added.
BSS says, DMP chief has sought cooperation from all the city dwellers in this regard.
