Distribution of e-passports to begin from Wednesday

The government is set to begin distribution of electronic passports (e-passports) in the country from Wednesday.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal gave the information at a media briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday, report bdnews24.com and UNB.

The minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the e-passport distribution at an event at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Wednesday,

The president and the prime minister of Bangladesh will receive e-passports first, he said, adding that anyone can apply for e-passports.

The Department of Immigration and Passports will initially distribute e-passports form its Agargaon, Uttara and Jatrabari offices in Dhaka.

Later, it will be introduced in 72 regional and divisional offices and 80 foreign missions in phases, said the minister.

“The e-passport will increase the acceptability of Bangladeshi passport across the world, ensure security of passport which will ease visit and immigration process globally,” he said.
