Dinjapur train-covered van collision leaves one dead

A man was killed as a train collided with a covered-van at Baropukuria coalmine level crossing in Dinajpur district early Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Biplob, 22, helper of the covered van and son of one Joynal Abedin, hailing from Gobindapur of Nilphamari Sadar.

Parbatipur Railway-Police Station sub-inspector Khokon Chandra said an oil-laden Khulna-bound train hit a Parbatipur-bound covered van which was stuck on the track around 5:30am, leaving its helper, who drove the vehicle, dead on the spot, reports a news agency.

The driver, however, managed to flee the spot, he added.
