'DIG Mizan obstructs ACC investigation'

Deputy Inspector General of police Mizanur Rahman did not submit required documents sought by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to conduct investigation regarding his wealth and earnings.

ACC Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that “DIG Mizan was told to submit some documents for the ACC investigation....but he has not done it.”

The ACC secretary said they would file a case against him for obstructing their investigation into his finances, reports bdnews24.com.

"If he continues to obstruct the investigation this way, the ACC will file a case against him,” Shamsul Arefin said.

ACC officials quizzed Rahman for seven hours at the corruption watchdog’s offices in Dhaka on May 3.

Then he was ordered to submit several documents regarding his wealth and earnings by Sunday.

The ACC has received allegations that Rahman earned tens of millions of taka in bribes for lobbying, hiring, transfers and other acts of corruption.

On February 10, the ACC assigned ACC Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwari to scrutinise the allegations.

In January, Rahman, who had a wife and a child, was accused of forcibly marrying another woman and beating her.

He was also alleged to have threatened a female journalist.

Rahman was later removed from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the ACC began an investigation into his illegal wealth.

The home ministry is also investigating the various allegations against Rahman.
