Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has called on the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to raise the Rohingya issue with the international community and help secure necessary funding and other humanitarian supports for the refugees.
He made the call during a meeting with ADB Country Director Manmohan Prokash at his office on Monday.
The minister briefed the ADB official on the recent developments in the Rohingya crisis, said a media release issued by the foreign ministry.
Dr Momen also thanked the international community, especially the ADB, for providing humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and a grant of US$ 100 million.
Lauding the country's impressive economic growth, Manmohan Prokash said the
ADB was willing to strengthen its cooperation further.
He expressed the hope that the ADB assistance in the areas of infrastructure and skill development would help take Bangladesh to the next level of growth and development.
Mr Prokash also expressed his willingness to enhance cooperation with the Bangladesh government in other socio-economic sectors, including skill development activities of the foreign ministry.
At the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr Momen also spoke of the visionary leadership of the prime minister and her commitment to ensuring socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has been acclaimed for its success in human development areas such as education, health and social safety net programmes and received huge support from the development partners, he said.
The foreign minister deeply appreciated the role of ADB in the socio-economic sectors of Bangladesh, especially its involvement in energy, transport and education sectors.
He also requested the ADB to finance the regional infrastructure projects, including hydro-power generation and cross-border power transmission and distribution.
He especially appreciated the role of ADB in strengthening the regional connectivity through SASEC programme.
