When the mercury is on the rise with the passage of the winter, sudden rains in Dhaka city, where people have recently started experiencing heat of the upcoming summer, on Monday came as a relief to many.
With the sky being overcast with clouds early in the morning, rains first started in very small, light drops at 6:00 am. Sometime later, it stopped but resumed at around 7:00am.
This rain, unusual in the middle of Falgun, the first Bangla month of the spring season that consists of Falgun and Chaitra, took many pedestrians by surprise.
Even if it rained moderately for 20 minutes, it caused quite a nuisance to people who were on the way to their workplaces or destinations early this day.
As they were out without any preparation for such rains, they had to get wet. Also, many guardians suffered with their children as there were fewer transports on the way.
Office-goers also did not suffer less, specially those who travel from afar. However, those who travel nearby suffered not much.
Though the rains were a nuisance to some, many saw the rains as a relief when the city is experiencing heat of the upcomming summer, around one and a half months away, due to climate change.
They said this rain brought them a feel of the outgoing winter.
According to weather office, there could be rains/thunder showers coupled with temporary gusty and squally winds in Dhaka and the neighbourhood today.
The temperature is also predicted to fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the area.
The city dwellers first woke up to see the unusual rainfall in this spring on February 17.
