Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has expressed determination to mitigate water-logging at any cost to alleviate the suffering of the city-dwellers.
"Measures will be taken to alleviate the suffering of the people by mitigating water-logging at any cost. For this, I will go to the court if necessary," he said while visiting the part of drainage obtained from WASA in the Kazipara-Shewrapara area in the city on Friday, reports BSS.
“Water-logging has increased and severe traffic jams have been created in the areas of Kazipara-Shewrapara due to non-completion of work on only 80 metres drain of this area,” he said.
“As a result, the suffering of the people in this area is now at an extreme level,” he added.
The mayor declared that he would go to court in person if necessary to alleviate the suffering of the people.
"We will take immediate steps to resolve the issue by presenting the matter to the court," he continued.
The engineering department of the city corporation and the waste management department are working together to clean the drains, he said.
He further said that the authority of DNCC is making sincere efforts to resolve the problem of this part of Kazipara-Shewrapara.
He said a 'Quick Response Team' has been formed to address water-logging in this area and other areas of DNCC.
People can dial the '16106' hotline number from any operator (except Grameen Phone) to inform any information regarding water-logging, said Atiqul.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Selim Reza, Ward-13 Councillor Md Ismail Mollah, Ward-14 Councillor Md Humayun Rashid (Jony), Chief Engineer Brigadier General Amirul Islam and Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam were present on the occasion.
