Dhaka Metro Rail has witnessed the first baby birth in the first hour of the operation today.
The birth took place at the first aid room of Agargaon Metro Rail Station around 8:45am.
The baby is a boy and the mother is Sonia Rani Roy.
This FE correspondent happened to be at the station at the time.
The woman had labour pains after boarding the Metro Rail from Uttara Central Metro Rail Station a while ago, said Mahfuzur Rahman, manager of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, or DMTCL.
As the Metro Rail stopped at Agargaon Metro Rail Station, Scout members and DMTCL staffs rushed her to the first aid room of the station, he said.
Mr Rahman said Scouts member Sonia Rani Das and Doctor Ferdaus Akter, a Metro Rail passenger, aided the woman in the baby birth.
Both the mother and the baby are doing fine. After first aid, they have been sent to a nearby hospital in an ambulance of Ital-Thai Development.
Ital-Thai Development is one of the contractors of MRT Line 6, the first of the Dhaka Metro Rail System.
Bangladesh launched its first metro rail service in capital Dhaka on December 28, 2022.
