The government has asked all the deputy commissioners (DCs) to take steps for shifting the existing kitchen markets to suitable places to help prevent further spread of coronvirus pandemic.

Under the move, the Ministry of Land (MoL) has requested DCs to facilitate maintaining physical distancing by shifting the kitchen markets from the existing places to nearby open and spacious ones or government khas lands in their respective districts.

"We have asked all the DCs to gear up their efforts to shift the present kitchen markets to an open and spacious khas land to prevent further infection of coronavirus," Land Secretary Md Muksodur Rahman Patwary told the FE on Wednesday.

Authorities of Narayanganj City Corporation, Gazipur, Narsingdi and some other district administrations have so far shifted some kitchen markets to open and safer places.

The MoL is the owner of hats and bazaars in the districts which are being functioned under ‘The Hats and Bazars (Establishment and Acquisition) Ordinance, 1959’.

The DCs will send proposals to the MoL through the divisional commissioners to get permission for establishing new hats and bazaars in the district, when necessary.
